This is the golden seal bestowed on the Seventh Dalai Lama by Emperor Yongzheng. The seal is carved with an inscription in Chinese, Tibetan, Manchu and Mongolian languages, which reads the same as that granted the Fifth Dalai Lama by Emperor Shunzhi. Both seals differ merely in one Chinese character, but vary greatly in Tibetan. Yet the biggest difference is the newly added Mongolian. This is no doubt one of the most important seals granted Dalai Lamas by the central Qing regime. (Rinchen Dolma)
