In 1937, the Ninth Panchen Erdeni returned to Tibet from Qinghai and died of illness at Yushu, Qinghai on the 1st day of the 12th month of 1937. Then on the 21st day of the next month, the National Government issued an order that entitles the Ninth Panchen “Great Master of Infinite Wisdom, Achiever of Complete Enlightenment, Defender of the Nation and Propagator of the Doctrine” posthumously. That order came as a salute to the master for his effort in upholding the national unity and preaching the religious profundity. Even Dai Chuanxian President of Examination Yuan visited Dartsedo to pay his condolences. This is the order conferring the posthumous title upon the late Panchen. (Damzin Tashi)
