This document was the Imperial Edit from Emperor Xianfeng upon the enthronement of the twelfth Dalai Lama. Emperor Xianfeng was very pleased with the searching for and recognition of the reincarnated soul boy before the portrait of Emperor Qianlong in the Potala Palace by and the Regent. He decreed Imperial Edit to approve the enthronement and dispatched staff of the Court of Colonial Affairs to go for conferring rewards. (Wang Jurong)

By the grace of the Heaven, the Emperor hereby instructs that:

Order to the Dalai Lama's Qubilgan. I expect people all over the nation to enjoy peaceful living and prosperity of both administration and religion over my ruling. As the Amban's report said: The Qubilgan, with auspicious omens having been appeared since he was born, with his dignified appearance and graceful manner, he is fluent in scripture and can recognize all the ornaments apparatus the former Dalai Lama offered. All Tibetan monks and laymen are admiring him with loyalty. Therefore, after chanting for seven days by the Hutuktus of the Potala Palace, on the 13th day of the 1st month, the Reting Rinpoche after his chanting, along with the Amban carried out the drawing lots before the saint portrait of Emperor Qianlong with your name lot drawn out. I’m pleased with it and decreed order to approve you as the Qubilgan with further order dispatching Amban Manqing and Enqing to take care of the enthronement in the Potala Palace. Besides the conferred rewards items brought by the staff of the Court of Colonial Affairs, an item-by-item list in Han shall be presented to Manqing. You can collect them when the rewards arrive. Now as growing in your intelligence, you shall learn scriptures and prosper the Tibetan Buddhism to make all monks and laymen to enjoy their peace and wellbeing and never relax in your effort.
