According to the historical convention, each Dalai Lama should extend his thanks to the central government upon his official enthronement. In 1940, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama wrote a letter to Lin Sen President of the National Government, in which he thanked the government for appointing Wu Zhongxin to hold the enthronement ceremony, and presented him with appropriate gifts.
