In 1616, upon the fourth Dalai Lama passing away, ngag dbang blo bzang rgya mtsho was recognized as the reincarnated soul boy and was enthroned in the Drepung Monastery succeeding as the fifth Dalai Lama. On invitation from Emperor Shunzhi, the fifth Dalai Lama came to Beijing in 1652 and was conferred the title of "Buddha of Great Compassion in the West, Leader of the Buddhist Faith Beneath the Sky, Holder of the Vaja", which was the first time the central governments of the Qing Dynasty conferring the Dalai Lama reincarnation system. This is the album conferred to the fifth Dalai Lama by Emperor Shunzhi. (Xiong Wenbin)

By the grace of the Heaven, the Emperor hereby decrees that:
It was heard that making the world better and doing better yourself go clearly two different paths; Making the world better if you're rich, otherwise do the best of yourself. There are also different creeds for Renouncing and Naturalizing the World, However, they share with each other in seeking for true nature, saving the world and awakening the people. Hereby, you, Lobzang Gyatso Daria Lama, with righteous bright in your mind, great meritorious deed you achieved,extraordinary self-cultivation and enlightenment you obtained, no others better than you could teach the unenlightened to spread your reputation over both the west and the east. My father admired you for long and dispatched envoys to greet you. According to my father's expectation, you promised to come in the year of CHEN. Now I ruled the nation by grace of the Providence, if you could come as planned, together with your elegant manner, graceful way you speaking and wisdom of enlightenment to let us have the of enlightenment and live in Buddha's place, what a joy it is. Now I confer you the golden album and seal of "Buddha of Great Compassion in the West, Leader of the Buddhist Faith Beneath the Sky, Holder of the Vaja", and let it come to the earth preaching lively to favor the public, what a peace it is!
