The twelfth Dalai Lama was enthroned on July 3, 1860 in the Potala Palace, and the eighth Panchen Erdeni was enthroned in Tashilhunpo Monastery on October 2 in the same year. As it was the time of the second Opium Wars, the court of Qing ordered the Amban to oversee the enthronement with Imperial envoy absent. Blocked by road, the Emperor's Imperial Edict and rewards were stranded in Sichuan, not being delivered to Tibet in time. This is the memorial from the twelfth Dalai Lama and the eighth Panchen Erdeni to the Emperor, transferred by the Amban, expressing their gratitude when they received the Imperial Edit decreed for enthronement and the rewards eight years after they were sent out.
